Rationale
This artifact is the product of EDU 615, Motivational Theory & Class Management. It is a case study of a 6th grade student who struggled to remain engaged and motivated in math class. Several interventions were implemented during this study to increase his involvement and motivation. This study relates to Proposition #1 because it highlights the frequent need for teachers to make astute observations and intervene creatively to spur student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Reflection
This was another great opportunity to consciously observe the subtle mechanics and causes of student behavior. It can be a challenge to draw middle school students into their studies, and I was thankful for the chance to focus on one student who was in dire need of a course correction. It was uplifting to witness the results of my efforts in this case, as they resulted in both improved attitude and grades for this student by the end of the study.
